Morgellons Disease Treatment

Our family has had many versions of Morgellons Disease over the last 7 years, each presenting slightly differently. Morgellons Disease treatment was not one cure-all, but instead was different for each manifestation. This article summarizes the practical ways we have treated Morgellons.

My Definition of Morgellons Disease

The existence of Morgellons Disease is currently debatable in the medical community. Some say it is a delusion or psychosis [3]. Others say it is caused by a Borrelia infection [1]. Some say it is a skin condition with filaments [1], while others say it is a skin condition with sores [3] and itching [2]. This article is not going to debate or analyze those topics. Instead, it is going to focus on practical treatment for Morgellons disease.

First, my definition of Morgellons. My definition of Morgellons is not one symptom, but rather a list of symptoms.

  • A sensation of crawling on or under the skin.
  • Pulsating or wave-like sensations on or under the skin.
  • Itchiness that tends to migrate to different spots.
  • Colored skin spots, especially ones that appear in a pattern.
  • Skin lesions or sores (but hopefully it is under control before it gets to the sores point).
  • Filaments in the skin, often colored – this is a more common Morgellons definition.

I should also mention that for our family, skin spots and lesions tend to be red. Others have reported blue and various different colors.

Morgellons Disease Treatment Overview

There hasn’t been one treatment for our Morgellons disease that works every time. Over the last 7 years, we have found several solutions that range from mineral deficiencies, to Lyme and parasite treatments. The following sections go through each treatment in detail, and try to correlate which Morgellons symptoms correspond to which treatment.

How did we figure all of this out? Muscle testing. Trial. And. Error. Over many years.

Now, if we have a Morgellons symptom, I use muscle testing to figure out which treatment to use. Knowing the treatments that typically work helps me figure out where to start muscle testing. This article highlights Morgellons Disease treatments that typically work for our family.

Below is an example video that shows how we muscle test. If you are unfamiliar with the general technique, check out the Overview Video first.

Morgellons Disease Treatment #1: Skin Microbiome

Are the billions of viruses, bacteria, fungi, and arthropods living on the skin the right ones? Are they ones that promote health or destroy health? Sometimes a reset on the skin microbiome is all that is needed to resolve Morgellons symptoms.

This is a whole topic in itself, so check out the “Healthy Skin Microbiome” article for all the details. The article discusses things like diet, lifestyle, soap, showering, sunshine, sweat, and dirt.

The skin microbiome was most often the culprit for our general crawling/itching symptoms and minor lesions.

Morgellons Disease Treatment #2: Minerals

Mineral deficiencies can also cause Morgellons disease. There are several theories I have to explain this. The immune system needs vitamins and minerals to fight off bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungus, mold, etc. Increasing minerals can boost the immune system, which then fights off the creepy-crawlies that are causing the Morgellons.

Another theory is that minerals help shift the balance of organisms in the gut, which help balance the organisms in the skin [4].

We have tried hundreds of mineral supplements over the years. The ones that have been most beneficial to us for Morgellons are: Biomins (formerly Citramins), Biomins II, or Fulvic-Humic.

Morgellons Disease Treatment #3: Lyme

Sometimes Lyme Disease can cause Morgellons disease. More about Lyme disease diagnosis, treatment, etc. can be found under the Lyme Disease Cure tab. Is it worth testing for Lyme if you have Morgellons? If you don’t have any other bothersome symptoms besides the crawling, then I might not bother. On the other hand, if you have recently had mosquito bites or tick bites, then I might very well bother.

I am of the personal opinion that it is often not Lyme (Borrelia) causing the Morgellons, but rather the co-infection Babesia. Why? When I’ve trial-and-errored to get rid of the Morgellons symptoms over the years, I notice that the herbs that target Babesia tend to work best.

The best herb I’ve found if Lyme is causing the Morgellons is the C.S.A formula from Woodland Essence. I take it internally and rub it on the skin. If that doesn’t work, then I would try the Nutramedix herbs Banderol, Cumanda, Houttuynia, and Enula.

Morgellons Disease Treatment #4: Parasites

Parasites can also cause crawling under the skin. I have seen both worms and protozoans cause Morgellons. I have yet to see flukes cause Morgellons in humans, but who knows…

One clue to figuring out if parasites are causing Morgellons is to track the symptoms on a calendar. If symptoms tend to flare-up at the full moon or up to a week before, then this could be a clue.

The picture at the beginning of this article shows a skin lesion/rash on my 7-year-old that came every full moon. It would fade away between full moons. The rash/lesion permanently disappeared after 1 round of internal parasite medications. The medications needed in this case were for worms.

Protozoan parasites that cause Morgellons are remedied by Ivermectin or Tinidazole in our experience. Worms typically need Mebendazole, Pyrantel Pamoate, or Diethyl. Details on obtaining these medications can be found on the Where To Get Parasite Medications for Humans tab.

I would try taking the medication both internally and rubbing it on the skin directly. Dissolve the medication in hot water first to make a paste. This paste can then be rubbed on the skin.

Herbs like wormwood can also be used, but I caution that parasites are very hard to kill. Our experience is that herbs drive the parasites further into the body instead of killing them.

  1. Very interesting. I definitely have #4. It’s a full moon today and they are hoppin’ and boppin’. I’ve heard a lot about Ivermectin- think I will purchase some. I’ve also heard that switching it with fenbendazole every week works well too. I’ve shown symptoms of a parasitical infection for six weeks now, but I’m starting a parasitical cleanse this week. I’ve been using all sorts of herbs and vitamins to no avail. Clove, wormwood, probiotics, antibiotics, etc. Any further suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you for this article. Many people don’t realize that there are different Morgellan’s.

  2. I lose weight very fast (1 kg per day) when taking antiparasites treatment; sulfur foods like garlic, onion, give me a bad reaction.. Rice send me to hospital… how could I increase my weight? Do you think its a detox issue?

  3. This is a good tip! Thank you, Susan, I am re-reading every section of your website. You are a blessing to many people who cannot get help from the medical community.
